Get started with Audiences
Audiences lets you show selected components to particular subscribers, alongside public components on the same status page.
Early access: This guide is for accounts where Audiences has been enabled. Contact us before setting up your first audience so we can help you plan a suitable trial.
Before you begin
Start with a small internal test using subscribers you control. Decide which components should remain public and which should be audience-specific.
An Audience uses rules to match subscribers. It is not the same as their notification preferences: access determines what they can see, while preferences determine which updates they want to receive.
Create an Audience
- Open the status page you want to manage and find Audiences in its settings.
- Choose to create an Audience and enter a descriptive Audience Name, such as Client A.
- Under Include Subscribers Where, enter your matching rule. For your first test, use an exact email match for a test subscriber.
- Select Preview Subscribers and check the matching subscribers carefully. This preview shows current matches.
- Select Create Audience.
If the preview is empty or includes someone unexpected, check the rule and your subscriber records before continuing. Avoid broad email matches unless you intend to include everyone they match.
Assign the Audience to a component
- Open Components and add or edit the component you want to restrict.
- Choose the appropriate Audience in the component's audience settings. Review every Audience shown, including any Team audience.
- Save the component.
- Check the page as a matching subscriber and as a visitor who should not have access. Use separate browser sessions for these checks.

During your trial
Contact us before deleting or moving components used by audience-specific notices, or making changes through imports, duplication or the API. These paths are still being reviewed for early access.
Changes to access may not be reflected immediately in an existing browser session. Do not rely on an Audience change for immediate access revocation. Discuss sensitive use cases with us before proceeding.
