Notice Archiving

Automatically archive old notices on your status page after a configurable time period. Archived notices become visible only to your team, keeping your public page focused on recent, relevant information while preserving your complete history for internal reference.

This applies to all notice types — incidents, maintenance, and general notices.

How does it work?

When you set an archive threshold, any notice older than that threshold is automatically transitioned to an "archived" state. This happens continuously in the background — there's nothing to manage day-to-day.

Archiving is retroactive: when you enable it or change the threshold, all existing notices are immediately recalculated. Notices that exceed the new threshold are archived straight away.

Archiving is also reversible: if you increase the threshold or disable archiving entirely, previously archived notices are restored to their normal state immediately.

What happens to archived notices?

Your team

Archived notices remain fully accessible to your team:

  • They are visible on your status page when a team member is logged in, shown with a visual "archived" indicator
  • They are also accessible in the management dashboard
  • They are included in uptime calculations viewed by team members, preserving full historical accuracy
  • They are returned by the authenticated Status API

Everyone else

Archived notices are hidden from anyone who isn't a team member:

  • They no longer appear on your homepage or history page
  • They are excluded from public uptime calculations
  • They are excluded from unauthenticated Status API responses
  • Direct links to archived notices show a friendly themed error page, consistent with your status page branding

Search engines

Archived notices are actively removed from search engine visibility:

  • They are excluded from your sitemap
  • Direct links return an HTTP 410 (Gone) status code, which signals to search engines that the page has been deliberately taken down — prompting faster de-indexing than a standard 404

Uptime calculations

Public uptime figures exclude archived notice impacts. This prevents a confusing situation where your uptime shows less than 100% but no visible notices explain the discrepancy.

Team members and the management dashboard continue to see uptime figures that include all historical notices, archived or otherwise.

How to configure

  1. Navigate to your page's Settings
  2. Select History & Timeline
  3. Find the "Archive notices after" dropdown
  4. Choose your preferred threshold, or select "Never Archive" to disable

The archive threshold must be longer than your "show recently resolved" timeline threshold.

Default setting

All existing pages have been configured with a 3-year archive threshold. Notices older than 3 years have been archived automatically. You can change this at any time in your page settings.

Frequently asked questions

Can I manually archive or unarchive individual notices?

Not currently. Archiving is automatic and threshold-based. You can adjust the threshold to change which notices are archived.

What if I change the threshold?

All notices are immediately recalculated. Lowering the threshold archives more notices; raising it restores previously archived ones. The change takes effect instantly.

Can I disable archiving?

Yes. Set the dropdown to "Never Archive" and all archived notices will be restored immediately.

Are archived notices permanently deleted?

No. Archived notices are hidden from public view but remain in your account indefinitely. They can be restored at any time by adjusting your threshold.
