How to Reschedule a Maintenance Notice
Step-by-step guide to rescheduling a maintenance window (before it starts or while it's already in progress)
Sometimes plans change! Whether your maintenance window needs to move before it starts or while it’s already in progress, Sorry™ makes it easy to reschedule and keep your subscribers informed.
Important: Simply changing the start/end dates does not automatically send a notification to your subscribers. You must manually publish an update to let them know about the new schedule.
Rescheduling a maintenance that has not started
- Open the maintenance notice.
- Edit the Due to begin and Expected to end dates/times to the new window.
Save the changes.
→ No notification is sent automatically at this point.
- Click on the Write a Progress Update button to trigger an update.
- We recommend using clear wording such as:
We have rescheduled this maintenance. The new window starts on [New Date & Time] and is expected to end on [New End Date & Time].
We’ll keep you updated if anything changes.
- Under Publication & notification make sure that The Status Page, and notify via is checked (this triggers the email/SMS/Slack/etc. to your subscribers).
- Click Review & Publish Update.
- Check the messaging and then click Yes, Publish and Send.
Your subscribers will now receive a notification letting them know the maintenance has been moved.
Rescheduling a maintenance that is already underway
When maintenance is actively running and you need to extend or shift the window:
- Open the maintenance notice.
Edit the Due to begin and Expected to end dates/times to the new window.
→ This alone does not notify subscribers.
- Click on the Write a Progress Update button to trigger an update.
- Change the Status from “Underway” to Scheduled (this moves the whole event back to the Scheduled state).
- Add a clear message, for example:
The maintenance work is taking longer than expected. We have rescheduled the window — it is now expected to start again on [New Date & Time] and complete by [New End Date & Time].
Thank you for your understanding.
(You can keep or customise the default template text.)
- Under Publication & notification make sure that The Status Page, and notify via is checked.
- Click Review & Publish Update.
- Check the messaging and then click Yes, Publish and Send.
This update will:
- Notify all subscribers of the new schedule
- Automatically move the maintenance status back to Scheduled
- Keep your status page accurate
Tip: When a maintenance goes Underway automatically, an update is posted. To reduce confusion, we recommend deleting the Underway update.
Quick Checklist for any Reschedule
- Update the Due to begin and Expected to end
- Add a new update (never rely on automatic notifications)
- Clearly state the new start/end times in the update
- Set the update to publish to The Status Page, and notify via
- (Only when already Underway) Change status back to Scheduled in the update
Following these steps ensures your subscribers are never left in the dark when a maintenance window moves.
